James Ransone, best known for playing Ziggy Sobotka in\u00a0The Wire,\u00a0<\/em>one of the most acclaimed series of all time, has died aged 46.<\/p>\n

According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, James Ransone died of suicide.<\/p>\n

Ransone also appeared in a number of films and series, including\u00a0Prom Night, The Black Phone<\/em>,\u00a0Law & Order and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation<\/em>, the 2008 miniseries\u00a0Generation Kill<\/em>, 2019\u2019s\u00a0It Chapter Two<\/em>, and\u00a0Poker Face<\/em>\u00a0among the rest. He was married to Jamie McPhee with whom he had two children.<\/p>\n

McPhee took to Instagram to honor her husband. She posted a photo of her and Ransone captioned, \u201cI told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again. You told me \u2013 I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me \u2013 and you were so right.<\/p>\n

The post added: \u201cThank you for giving me the greatest gifts \u2013 you, Jack and Violet. We are forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

McPhee also shared a link to a\u00a0GoFundMe\u00a0<\/em>page for the National Alliance on Mental Illness.<\/p>\n

During his life, he spoke openly of the sexual abuse he suffered from a tutor while growing up in Maryland. In an Instagram post from 2021, he wrote of the abuse and said it led to \u201ca lifetime of shame and embarrassment.\u201d According to the actor, the incident triggered his addictions to alcohol and heroin, according to the\u00a0BBC<\/em>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Fans and friends honored Ransone on the social media.<\/p>\n

Wendell Pierce posted on\u00a0X,\u00a0<\/em>\u201cSorry I couldn\u2019t be there for you, brother. Rest in Peace James Ransone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Director Spike Lee shared a photo of them together and wrote on Instagram: \u201cRest In Peace To My Dear Brother, MR. JAMES RANSONE. We Rocked Together On RED HOOK SUMMER And INSIDE MAN.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sean Baker, the Oscar-winning director of\u00a0Anora<\/em>\u00a0who worked with Ransone on the films\u00a0Starlet<\/em>\u00a0(2012) and\u00a0Tangerine<\/em> (2015), wrote, \u201cI\u2019ll miss you dearly my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Madeleine McGraw, who starred with Ransone in\u00a0The Black Phone<\/em>\u00a0and its sequel, remembered Ransone as \u201csuch a beautiful soul\u201d and \u201cso genuinely supportive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m struggling to put into words the profound emptiness I\u2019m feeling since learning of James Ransone\u2019s passing,\u201d she wrote on her Instagram story. \u201cMy heart is absolutely shattered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Natasha Lyonne, who starred alongside Ransone in\u00a0Poker Face,\u00a0<\/em>wrote, \u201cLove you with everything I got and holding our beloved brilliant peejo with grace gratitude and cosmic peace into this life and the next \u2013 family forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

A GoFundMe has been established to assist Ransone\u2019s wife and two children.<\/p>\n
