Mouth breathing:
When the nose is congested (cold, allergies, sinusitis), we breathe through the mouth. This can cause:
A prolonged opening of the lips
An accumulation of saliva
A secretion during sleep
If it occurs frequently, it may indicate a chronic ear, nose, and throat problem.
Seasonal or chronic allergies
: Nasal allergies can obstruct the upper airways, leading to mouth breathing.
Watch for symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, or itching.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD):
Acid reflux can stimulate excessive saliva production (a protective reflex).
Associated symptoms:
Acidity
Nighttime cough
Bad taste in mouth
Medical advice is recommended if symptoms persist.
