For years, I stayed silent.

Not because I had nothing to say, but because I had convinced myself that my feelings didn’t matter. Every time I tried to explain what I was going through, I was interrupted, misunderstood, or told I was simply overreacting. After hearing those words enough times, I stopped trying.

They didn’t ask a hundred questions or try to fix everything immediately. Instead, they quietly said the words I had been waiting to hear for years: “I don’t think you’re okay, and you don’t have to pretend with me.”
